Dreams of Vision
A tribute to the blind...

An entry for depthCORE XXV - Freestyle II

Story/Concept

This image was made about 2 months ago, a few days after I encountered the incident.
What happened was, I was coming home from school that day, and I was standing there
listening to my music as the subway takes me home.

At a certain stop, a blind student(he had a bookbag) about my age came into the subway.
That was when I was stunned...the music I was listening to just sort of went in my ears and got muted.
The blind guy looked so lost...and so lonely...I can't even explain his actions the way I
wish I could. But he clinged onto the subway pole with both hands, and kept himself very close
to the pole and window as if he would think he's in the way of everyone else.

I felt SO incredibly bad for this young guy...The look on his face, the way he was holding onto the pole,
the way he acted just gave me the biggest insecurity and lost depiction, ever. I was
so sad...I really felt like I wanted to help him out in some way...Any way. Thankfully he
was able to travel by himself just fine, I would have felt even worst if he had trouble with that.

Nonetheless, this is how I was influenced to create this piece, a tribute for the misfortunate like him.
It's the least I could do.

Symbolism

Like all my other conceptual meaningful pieces, there is a ton of symbolism in here; let me just say
that this is not meant to be a visual pleasing piece, so if you are turned off, it is understandable.

The silouhette of a man - That's probably the most obvious one, it represents the inner feelings
of a blind person...When you have lost the sense of direction, time and ability to see, you are in a very lonely
state, this is why the person here is curled up, almost afraid.

Circular form with Arrows and Time - The circular form represents the "cycle" of daily life for these guys.
They are lost in Direction(represented by arrows) and lost in time (12,3,6,9 - represent numbers of a clock)

Shape on lower back - This shape represents their walking stick. I made it to look like a
"support", to be able to hold the person up, for blind people must have their sticks, to get them going.

Wing - The single wing represents 2 things. I chose 1 wing simply because
they are disabled, for they are "one winged". The other representation is to show that though they may be blind
and are lost with the world, some are very optimistic and still have dreams. Wings in some way, represent hope and
ability to go beyond...so this is why I used that here. (the fire at the ends of the wings represent hope(fire))

The eye in the person - This eye symbolizes the "inner eye" of these folks. I am almost positive that
although they cannot see physically, they are very able to see internally. Their imagination and vision of the world
I'm sure is a lot more interesting than ours.

Background images - The images in the background symbolize the shadow of the things that
these people could be doing, but cannot. It also acompanys the "hope" of the wings, for they wish they are able to
do these activities.

The map represents the ability to travel wherever you want, you are in control of where you want to
go in the map. Unfortunately they are not able to do that. The Clock repreesents time, unfortunately these
unfortunates are blocked from the knowledge of time. And...ofcourse books. Without eyes, one cannot
see, therefore one would not even be able to read..anything. It is certainly something that I believe they wished
they could be doing.

Words near person - These are just my thoughts of this event, words like "May god bless them"
and "Darkness" "Lost", etc.

Final Words

Well that's all I have to say my folks, if you have taken the time to read everything I had in this piece,
you can truly tell me if you like it or not. I thank you for those who did read the idea and concept behind the
entire piece, I appreciate this.

Enjoy, and may God bless these unfortunate people.

Oh my god! Beautiful piece of art! The symbolism really hits home. Thank you for this greatness! :D
